The Spiritual Art of Receiving

Learning to Be Held

Hello, lovely soul!

In the last two years, I’ve traveled across continents - sometimes with a plan, often without. Every new country has brought its own rhythm, its own rules, and its own invitation…

When I arrived in Greece two weeks ago, I was expecting a quiet place to rest, maybe a few days to find my rhythm in a new land. What I wasn’t prepared for was the warmth that met me at the door - a kind of care that felt both unexpected and deeply familiar.

The fridge was full, the shelves thoughtfully arranged with food, herbs, and comforts I hadn’t even realized I might need. A brand new beach bag and towel had been placed out for me, not as an obligation, but as a gesture of pure thoughtfulness. I was welcomed not as a stranger, but as someone already known.

Over the next few days, gentle invitations appeared - coffee shared to watch a sunset, kind check-ins, quiet reassurances that I wasn’t alone. It wasn’t just hospitality; it was soul-level generosity.

And somewhere in that unfolding, I felt something shift. I saw how quickly I brace myself to give back, to stay self-sufficient, to not need. But this experience reminded me that receiving - without guilt, without deflection - is a spiritual act. It’s a softening. A surrender. A quiet permission to be held.

Moments like these remind us that receiving is not passive. It’s a spiritual opening. It asks us to loosen the armor of self-reliance, to allow love in when it shows up unexpectedly, and to trust that we are worthy of care without needing to earn it.

For many of us, it’s far easier to give than to receive. But there is deep healing in letting others support us, in saying yes to the quiet kindness life offers. If this touches something in you, here are two gentle practices to explore the sacred art of receiving this week.

✍️ Journal Prompt

How do I respond when someone offers me help, kindness, or care?
[Do you welcome it, deflect it, or feel uncomfortable? What might shift if you allowed yourself to receive without guilt or resistance? Where in your life are you being invited to receive more openly?]

🌬️ 3-Breath “Receiving Softly” Meditation

Find a quiet space and sit with your eyes closed.

Breath One: Inhale… and as you exhale, release the need to do or prove anything right now.
Breath Two: Inhale… and as you exhale, soften your heart. Imagine it unclenching, just a little.
Breath Three: Inhale… and as you exhale, feel yourself open. Imagine love, support, or kindness flowing toward you, - and simply let it land.

Sit in this quiet openness for a few more moments. You don’t need to reach for anything. Just allow it in.

Affirmation

I open my heart to receive with grace. I welcome support, kindness, and love in all the forms they choose to arrive.

As always, thank you for your kind reviews! Here are some from past week.
